Formed in February 1975, the Fire Protection Association New Zealand (FPANZ) is a not-for-profit member organization and the national body for fire safety. We provide information, services and education to the fire protection industry and the community at large.

Our mission statement and ongoing focus is:

'To provide a professional forum and be the unified voice of the fire protection industry by drawing on our expertise and collective knowledge to reduce the impact of fire in New Zealand.'

FPANZ, through the national office as well as a range of technical committees and special interest groups, plays a pivotal role in providing authoritative advice and information on all aspects of fire safety and emergency management through a range of services to industry, commerce and the community at large. It also provides an important forum for bringing together practitioners and professionals who deliver a broad range of fire protection products and services.

One of FPANZ's main strengths is its membership base and its extensive diversity. This provides a wide perspective and enables FPANZ to reach and represent all sectors of our industry as well as others with a responsibility for, and interest in, protecting the community and workplace environments.

The membership of the association includes:

  • Fire safety advisors and risk assessors
  • Fire protection installation and maintenance companies
  • Government departments and agencies
  • Suppliers and manufacturers of fire protection equipment
  • Consultants in emergency evacuation procedures
  • Educational organisations
  • Fire and Emergency New Zealand
  • Insurance organisations and risk assessors
  • Building control authorities

Whether you require advice on fire protection needs, fire protection products, service or installation, it is important to that you choose to engage a certified FPANZ member over other providers in the market.

Here are three important reasons why:

  1. All FPANZ members are bound by a stringent and rigorous Code of Ethical Conduct and Complaints and Disciplinary Procedure which relates to their professionalism, behaviour and conduct within the industry.
  2. All FPANZ members must hold a minimum of $2Million Public and Product Liability insurance and are encouraged to hold Professional Indemnity Insurance.
  3. All FPANZ members and their staff are required under our Code of Ethical conduct to ensure they hold all necessary certification as may be specified and are required to be suitably qualified in all practicing activities.

All FPANZ members must meet all of the above requirements as a condition of their membership and ongoing commitment to the Fire Protection Association of New Zealand and its community of stakeholders.
